Corrective Exercise

Now days it seems like we all know someone who has gotten injured doing next to nothing, sometimes even waking up hurt. This is because we have all become accustomed to a more sedentary lifestyle and have fallen victim to the conveniences of modern day life, such as cell phones, the internet and video games. We are raising children with far less movement and exercise than we as adults have ever had.

This lack of movement is leading to a significant rise in muscular imbalances, postural issues, and dysfunctional movement patterns that can lead to discomfort, pain, and in the worst case scenario injury.

The goal of corrective exercise is to slowly advance to normal functional movement patterns and correct any imbalances that have occurred because of injury, posture, or overuse activities.

I strive to get the individual back to correct behavior, proper posture, muscular balance and improve their over all strength and flexibility in order lower their risk of injury and improve their quality of life. It involves the following six movement patterns:

  1. Mobility which is proper range of motion.
  2. Stability, the bodies ability to maintain correct posture in dynamic or static state.
  3. Re-learning proper movement patterns.
  4. For the athlete increase power, which is the ability to be explosive.
  5. Strength, which is being able to load the movement safely and effectively.
  6. Performance enhancement through sport specific training and functional exercise.

I have a Corrective Exercise certification from the NASM as well as extensive training in Myo-fascial trigger point release. In addition I have obtained a CAFS certification from the Gray Institute which focuses on Functional exercise that improves mobility and stability.
