John Turk, San Diego’s Elite Personal Trainer
At 62 years old, I have been in the fitness industry as a personal trainer for over 30 years. Love helping people and love living the lifestyle. My involvement began when I was younger and wanted to become a better wrestler and football player. Since then I have competed in several bodybuilding contests with my most notable title being the Collegiate Mr. Illinois.
I have also become a familiar face in the fitness industry not only as personal trainer but as a fitness model. I have appeared on the cover of such magazines as Muscle & Fitness, Physical and Planet Muscle- Check out my portfolio page to see the images.
In addition, I was also a police officer for 10 years in the Chicago Metro area and was the fitness instructor for the police department where I trained officers to pass their quarterly fitness exams as well as the testing for new recruits.
What most people don’t realize is that the excessive lifestyle I had dieting from one extreme to another caused me to develop an eating disorder. I became a severe binge eater and struggle with it to this day. I completely understand the power food holds over us and I have developed a way to keep it in check. There were times I would eat a dozen “Dove bars” in one sitting. I would also have problems at “all you can eat” buffet style restaurants. Las Vegas was the worst for me. I would go in to eat one meal and on several occasions stayed for several hours eating until I got sick. I would walk out feeling completely defeated and depressed. I would then go into the gym at the hotel and do cardio for hours at a time to work off what I just ate. It was a vicious cycle I knew could kill me one day. So trust me when I say, “I understand”.
